Joining to grow: the value of belonging to a professional association

Joining to grow: the value of belonging to a professional association
In an industry as dynamic as the audiovisual and telecommunications industry, keeping up to date and connected with other professionals is a constant challenge.

Technology is evolving rapidly, and with it comes new demands for training, certification and skills upgrading. In this context, belonging to a professional association is not only a career support, but also an opportunity for collective growth.

Associations bring together experts, integrators, consultants, manufacturers and end users with a common goal: to drive industry development through education, innovation and collaboration. Being part of such a network provides access to training, recognized certifications, exclusive resources and, above all, a community that shares knowledge and experiences to meet the challenges of the sector.

An example of this is BICSI CALA, BICSI's regional chapter in Latin America and the Caribbean, an organization that works to professionalize those working in key areas such as ICT infrastructure and its convergence with the AV world.

According to Miguelangel Ochoa, President of the BICSI CALA Leadership Committee, the association's mission in the region is to promote the ICT profession through certified training programs, publication of standards and technical manuals, as well as networking activities to keep abreast of the latest trends in telecommunications infrastructure, data centers and connectivity.

Membership in BICSI opens doors to a diverse ecosystem that connects designers, consultants, manufacturers and integrators throughout the region. Membership not only facilitates collaboration and access to new employment opportunities, but also offers tangible benefits such as discounts on specialized training and access to standards and technical manuals that complement learning.

One of the association's major differentials is its commitment to training. Currently, BICSI offers specialization programs in the design and installation of telecommunications systems, data centers and optical networks, recognized for their vendor-neutral approach.

For Latin America and the Caribbean, BICSI CALA is already preparing to launch training in two languages -Spanish and English- starting in 2026, with content focused on smart grid and data center design.

BICSI at InfoComm Latin America

With this spirit of integration and professional update, BICSI CALA will participate in the first edition of InfoComm Latin America, a space where they seek to approach professionals in the AV sector that need to strengthen their knowledge in network infrastructure. "The new trends of smart buildings, converged networks and next-generation systems A / V need quality networks and trained professionals," says Ochoa, who stresses that the association wants to position itself as a neutral and reliable learning resource for the AV community.

During the event, BICSI will offer a conference focused on the relevance of copper and fiber optic cabling for the performance of AV systems. In the words of Ochoa, "today, the vast majority of these systems are part of IP networks and converged structured cabling, so a good design and installation have a direct impact on the quality of audiovisual solutions".

The session called "Myths and realities of physical infrastructure for audiovisual systems" will be held on Friday, October 24 at 13h in the Mixteca II room, with the presence of Miguel Aldama, Consultant - Independent - Volunteer Leadership Committee - Mexico Vice Chair| BICSI CALA.

Strategic points

Collaboration with AVIXA within the framework of InfoComm is another pillar of the strategy. Both associations share the vision of promoting professionalism and best practices based on international standards, for the benefit of the entire industry. "Increasingly, the niches of both industries converge with each other, and this alliance will allow us to carry a common message that drives the training and preparation of professionals," emphasizes the chairman of the Leadership Committee.

Looking to the future, BICSI CALA identifies trends that mark the course of ICT and AV convergence: integration with IP systems, the increasing use of fiber optics and twisted pair instead of proprietary cabling, and the need for high performance networks for applications such as digital signage, virtual and augmented reality. To accompany this change, BICSI has updated its intelligent network design programs, incorporating content on infrastructure for smart buildings and convergent networks, which will serve as a guide to prepare the region's buildings for the technological challenges of the next decade.
