Attendees will tour the Sonidario facilities—the National Sound Archive’s immersive listening room at Los Pinos—and listen to two sound art pieces that showcase the capabilities of this immersive listening room, the first of its kind in Latin America. 

The name Sonidario refers to a “sound enclosure,” just as an “aviary” is an enclosure for birds. The space features a dome of 46 speakers that reproduce three-dimensional sound based on fifth-order ambisonic technology (High Order Ambisonics, HOA), an advanced surround sound format capable of representing the sound field in a spherical manner—including height and depth—making it ideal for art installations, virtual reality, and acoustic experimentation. The room also features a software-controlled, programmable LED lighting system, which allows for the design of audiovisual experiences where light is synchronized with sound, creating immersive atmospheres that enhance the audience’s immersion and open up new expressive possibilities for artists.  

This permanent installation, created by the organization based in Auditorium C of the Los Pinos Cultural Complex, marks a milestone for the creation, exhibition, and appreciation of contemporary sound art and multichannel music, offering a sensory experience that is unique in the country.
